The scheme "Personal Accident Insurance Scheme for Coir Workers" by the Coir Board, Government of India, aims to provide financial compensation to deceased/disabled coir workers and their nominees. Through this scheme, insurance compensation benefits are provided to coir workers in case of accidental death, permanent total disability, permanent partial disability, and finger cut. The scheme is implemented by the Coir Board. The entire insurance premium is paid by the Coir Board to the insurance company selected through quotations. The financial compensation is provided by the insurance company to disabled coir workers or the nominee of disabled/deceased coir workers.

Who qualifies

  • The applicant should be a Coir Worker engaged in the coir industry.
  • The applicant should be aged 18 years and above.
  • There is no upper age limit for coverage under the insurance scheme.
  • The disabled coir worker can apply for the claim.
  • The nominee of the disabled/deceased coir worker can apply for the claim.
  • For women coir workers, considering their majority in the group, accidents include death and disablement arising out of and traceable to:
  • Sterilisation and consequent complications.
  • Pregnancy.
  • Childbirth.
  • Caesarean.
  • Hysterectomy.
  • Removal of breast.
  • Murder and rape, etc.

  • Accidental death: ₹ 50,000/-
  • Permanent total disability: ₹ 50,000/-
  • Permanent partial disability: ₹ 25,000/-
  • Provision for finger cut: Depending upon the finger and limited to applicable percentages of the capital sum insured.
