Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana is a flagship scheme of the State and Central Government implemented on a subsidy-sharing basis in a 50:50 ratio. This path-breaking initiative aims to ensure the welfare of farmers. Under the scheme, farmers are required to pay a uniform premium of only 2% of the sum insured for all Kharif crops, 1.5% for Rabi crops, and 5% for cotton crops. The remaining premium will be equally borne by the State and Central Government. The scheme aims to keep the premium burden on farmers significantly low while ensuring comprehensive risk coverage. The use of technology is a key feature of the scheme. Smart phones will be utilized to capture and upload data from Crop Cutting Experiments (CCE), which will help reduce delays in claim settlements. Additionally, remote sensing technology will be employed to minimize the number of Crop Cutting Experiments (CCEs) required. The scheme provides coverage for the following stages of crops and associated risks leading to crop loss: 1. Localized Risks: Losses or damage resulting from identified localized risks, such as hailstorms and inundation (except paddy), affecting isolated farms within the notified area.
