NLMGIPBIEPG
What this is
The scheme aims to enhance indigenous pig productivity through genetic upgradation. The scheme supports the establishment of pig semen collection and processing labs and the import of exotic pig germplasm.
In detail
The “Import of Exotic Pig Germplasm” is a component under the Sub-Mission on Breed Development of Livestock and Poultry of the National Livestock Mission (NLM), implemented by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India. The scheme supports States in the need-based import of superior exotic pig germplasm for genetic improvement of indigenous and non-descript pig breeds. The imported germplasm is used to produce quality crossbred pigs with higher meat productivity. The superior exotic breeds are maintained as pure breeds in State nucleus farms. States are required to formulate and notify a pig breeding policy before submitting proposals under the scheme.
