In detail

The Small Cardamom Irrigation Land Development: Irrigation / Water Storage Structure Scheme under the Spices Board India, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, is intended to motivate growers to bring more area under irrigation and land development by constructing water storage structures, thereby increasing productivity and improving the quality of small cardamom, as per the modalities and scheme guidelines approved by the competent authority for the implementation of the “Integrated Scheme for Export Promotion & Quality Improvement in Spices and Research and Development of Cardamom” during the 15th Finance Commission period (2021–22 to 2025–26).

Who qualifies

  • The applicant should be a small cardamom grower from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, or Karnataka.
  • The applicant should undertake irrigation and land development activities by constructing irrigation or water storage structures.
  • The applicant should ensure that the proposed structure does not obstruct the natural flow of water or create objections from local communities or concerned authorities, subject to final inspection by designated officials.

What you get

  • 50 % of cost of construction subject to a maximum of Rs 30,000 per unit for General Category and 75% subject to maximum of ₹ 45,000/- per unit for SC/ST.
  • The minimum capacity of irrigation structure should be 25 cubic metre for availing maximum subsidy under the programme. Any farmer who has availed this benefit earlier is not eligible to avail the benefit.
  • Registered cardamom growers having land holding size of 0.10 Ha to 8 Ha are eligible to avail this scheme.
