Weather-Based Insurance Scheme for Small Cardamom is implemented by the Spices Board under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, as a subcomponent of the Integrated Scheme for Export Promotion & Quality Improvement in Spices and Research and Development of Cardamom.
The scheme aims to protect small cardamom growers against adverse weather events, such as deficient or excess rainfall, high temperatures, and variations in relative humidity, which may negatively affect crop production.
The scheme is being implemented in accordance with the modalities and guidelines approved by the Competent Authority under the Integrated Scheme for Export Promotion & Quality Improvement in Spices and Research and Development of Cardamom during the 15th Finance Commission period (2021–22 to 2025–26).
Who qualifies
1.In Idukki district of Kerala on pilot basis
- If the State Govt. is not sharing the premium of 10%, the same have to be compensated by the beneficiaries making their share of premium as 25%. Board as well as beneficiary farmers will pay their share of premium directly to the Insurance Company.
- The term sheet of insurance will be provided by Insurance Company at the time of application. Claims will be settled between the Insurance Company and the beneficiary and Spices Board will not have any direct involvement on such issues.
What you get
> 75% of premium by GoI, 15% by State Govt and 10% by Beneficiary. Board share will be ₹ 16,040/ Ha. (including GST) Registered cardamom growers having land holding size of 0.10 Ha to 8 Ha. For a beneficiary the assistance will be available for 3 consecutive years only in the block year of five years from 2021-26.
