What this is
The scheme aims to provide completely free and cashless delivery, including caesarean section, for pregnant women at government health facilities along with free treatment for sick newborns and infants.

Started in 2011, the scheme "Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK)" by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, aims to provide free and cashless delivery, treatment, diagnostics, drugs, diet, and transport services to pregnant women and sick newborns/infants at public health institutions. It also aims to eliminate out-of-pocket expenses related to delivery, treatment, and essential maternal and child healthcare services.
Who qualifies
- The applicant must be a pregnant woman.
- The applicant must be admitted to a government health facility.

> For Pregnant Women:
- Free and zero expense Delivery and Caesarean Section
- Free Drugs and Consumables
- Free Essential Diagnostics (Blood, Urine tests and Ultra-sonography etc)
- Free Diet during stay in the health institutions (up to 3 days for normal
- delivery & 7 days for caesarean section)
- Free Provision of Blood
- Free Transport from Home to Health Institutions
- Free Transport between facilities in case of referral
- Drop Back from Institutions to home after 48hrs stay
- Exemption from all kinds of User Charges
> For Sick Newborns And Infants (Up to 30 days after birth):
- Free and zero-expense treatment
