The scheme aims to boost farmers' income by improving the production and productivity of Makhana in 11 districts of Bihar through the distribution of high-quality seeds at subsidized rates.
In detail
“Makhana Beej Vitaran” launched by the Department of Agriculture, Bihar, aims to enhance Makhana cultivation and increase farmers' earnings. Under this scheme, improved seed varieties such as Swarn Vaidehi and Sabour Makhana-1, developed by Bihar Agricultural University, are distributed to farmers in 11 districts of Bihar.
The scheme is to be implemented in 10 districts of the state under Schedule 1, 2 and 3 of the approval order, namely, Katihar, Purnia, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Kishanganj, Supaul, Araria, Madhepura, Saharsa and Khagaria.

Who qualifies
- The applicant should be a farmer.
- The applicant should belong to any of the following districts of Bihar: Katihar, Purnia, Madhubani, Kishanganj, Supaul, Araria, Madhepura, Saharsa, Darbhanga, Sitamarhi and Khagaria.
- The applicant must have agricultural land a minimum of 0.25 acres (0.1 ha) and a maximum of 10 acres (4 ha).
- The applicant must be registered on the DBT portal.

> Note 1: Beneficiary allocation: Women Participation: 30%.
> Note 2:** The benefits of this scheme can be taken by ryot farmers on the basis of land documents and non-ryot farmers on the basis of contract form.
> Note 3:****** Beneficiaries will be selected on first come first serve basis.
What you get
- Subsidized Seeds: Seeds of recommended varieties will be made available to farmers at the rate of 30 Kg/Ha. - For Swarn Vaidehi variety: ₹4,950/- will be given as a subsidy (75%). - For Sabour Makhana-1 variety: ₹5,737.50/- will be given as a subsidy (75%).
