What this is

The scheme aims to boost Makhana cultivation by providing training to farmers and financial support for traditional equipment.

In detail

“Makhana Vikas Yojona” launched by the Department of Agriculture, Bihar, is designed to boost the cultivation and productivity of Makhana in 10 designated districts of Bihar. It focuses on offering training to farmers and providing grants for traditional equipment used in Makhana cultivation and processing.

The scheme is to be implemented in 10 districts of the state under Schedule 1, 2 and 3 of the approval order, namely, Katihar, Purnia, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Kishanganj, Supaul, Araria, Madhepura, Saharsa and Khagaria.

Who qualifies

  • The applicant should be a farmer.
  • The applicant should belong to any of the following districts of Bihar : Katihar, Purnia, Madhubani, Kishanganj, Supaul, Araria, Madhepura, Saharsa, Darbhanga and Khagaria.
  • The applicant must have agricultural land minimum of 0.25 acres (0.1 ha) and a maximum of 10 acres (4 ha).
  • The applicant must be registered on the DBT portal.

Beneficiary allocation:

  • Women Participation: 30%.

> Note 2: The benefits of this scheme can be taken by ryot farmers on the basis of land documents and non-ryot farmers on the basis of contract form.

> Note 3: Beneficiaries will be selected on first come first serve basis.

  • Training: Workshops and training for farmers to adopt modern methods and improve productivity. - Equipment Kits: Grants of 75% of the cost (up to ₹16,575/-) for traditional tools (i.e. Auka, Ganj, Kara, Khainchi, Chalni, Chatai, Afra, and Thaapi used in Makhana cultivation).
