PRE-DIS

The scheme aims to support students with disabilities for further studies and reduce dropout rates. Through this scheme, maintenance allowance, book grant, and disability allowance are provided to eligible students with disabilities studying in Classes IX and X.

The scheme "Pre-Matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities" by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India aims to support students with disabilities to continue their studies, minimize drop-out rates during the transition from elementary education to higher education, and improve participation of students with disabilities in Classes IX and X at the pre-matric stage of education. Through this scheme, maintenance allowance, book grant, and disability allowance are provided to students with disabilities studying in Classes IX and X. The scheme is implemented through the National Scholarship Portal, and the scholarship amount is transferred to the bank accounts of beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

> Objectives:

• To support students with disabilities for further studies and help them prepare to earn their livelihood and live with dignity.
• To minimise the incidence of drop-out, especially during the transition from elementary education to higher education.
• To improve the participation of students with disabilities in Classes IX and X and at the pre-matric stage of education.

• The applicant should be an Indian national.
• The applicant should be a student with a benchmark disability and should have a valid disability certificate issued by the competent authority.
• The applicant should be a regular, full-time student studying in Classes IX and X in:

• A Government school; or
• A school recognised by the Government; or
• A school recognised by the Central/State Board of Secondary Education.

• The applicant’s parents/guardian’s income from all sources should not exceed ₹2,50,000/- per annum.
• Not more than 2 children with disabilities of the same parents will be eligible for benefits under the scheme. In case the second child is a twin, the scholarship will be admissible to both twins.
• Preference/Priority/Reservation/Relaxation
• 50% of the total scholarships available each year are reserved for female candidates. If adequate eligible female candidates are not available, remaining slots may be utilised for suitable male candidates.

• Maintenance Allowance * (₹ per Month): Day Scholars: 500, Hostellers: 800.1. Book Grant: ₹ 1000/- per annum.1. Disability Allowances (₹ per Annum):

• Visually Impaired: ₹4,000.
• Hearing Impaired: ₹2,000.
• Physically Disabled (OH): ₹2,000.
• Intellectual Disabilities: ₹4,000.
• Other disabilities not covered above: ₹2,000.

• The applicant will not be eligible if he/she is already receiving another scholarship/stipend. The applicant may choose the more beneficial scholarship and inform the concerned authority.
• Scholarship will not be available for the same class for a second or subsequent year if the student repeats the class.
