Who qualifies

  • The applicant must be an Indian national currently based in India.
  • The applicant must not be more than 58 years of age.
  • The applicant must possess a Ph.D. or Master's Degree in specific sports-related subjects.
  • The applicant must either hold a permanent position in an institution or have a suitable arrangement with an institution.
  • The applicant must have the research proposal or project approved by the concerned University or Institute.
  • The proposed research must have a direct bearing on sports-related issues or contribute to the improvement of sports and games in India.
  • The applicant may submit details of past publications or research work in related areas, if available.

  • Research Grant: Financial assistance is provided for sports-related research projects. - Standard Research Funding: Grant is provided as per University Grants Commission (UGC) norms, subject to a maximum limit of ₹10,00,000/-. - Mega Research Projects: Financial assistance of up to ₹50,00,000/- may be provided for exceptional mega research projects. - Research Areas Supported: Support is available for studies related to sports psychology, sports medicine, injury management, performance improvement, talent identification, and sports sociology. - Institutional Research Support: Government institutions and UGC-recognised universities engaged in sports-related activities are encouraged to undertake research projects. - Individual Research Support: Subject specialists and research scholars may receive assistance for eligible research and development studies. - Collaborative Research: Support may be provided for research undertaken under bilateral and multilateral Memoranda of Understanding signed by the Ministry. - Validity of Assistance: The duration of the grant is up to 2 years.
