The scheme aims to develop specialists, coaches, officials, and researchers in sports. Under this scheme, fellowships, training support, research grants, and publication assistance are provided to sports personnel and institutions.

In detail

The "Scheme of Human Resources Development in Sports- Fellowship Programme" by the Department of Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. The scheme aims to sporting excellence by modernizing and augmenting the overall sports eco-system, developing a large pool of specialists in sports science, sports medicine, sports technology, sports nutrition, sports physiotherapy, and high-performance coaching, refereeing, and psychology. Under this scheme, fellowships for specialised studies, financial support for participation in and holding of seminars, workshops, clinics, and conferences, assistance for appearing in qualifying examinations and specialised training, research grants, and publication assistance are provided to officials of the Ministry, the Sports Authority of India, National Sports Federations, athletes, coaches, technical officials, students, and researchers.

> Scheme Implementation:

The scheme is implemented by the Department of Sports in association with its Autonomous Bodies, namely the Sports Authority of India, the Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education, the National Dope Testing Laboratory, the National Anti Doping Agency, and the National Sports University.

> Components of the Scheme:

The scheme will have the following components:

(i) Fellowship Programme

(ii) Exchange of Knowledge/ Research/ Ideas

a) For attending seminars/ workshops/conferences of repute in India or abroad

b) For holding training programmes/ seminars/ workshops/ clinics and conferences within the country

(iii) Assistance to Match Officials, Coaches and Supporting Personnel

(iv) Assistance for Research

(v) Publication of Outstanding Works on sports related Subjects

Who qualifies

  • The applicant should be an Indian national currently based in India.
  • Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) are not eligible.
  • The applicant should not be more than 55 years of age.
  • The applicant should take admission in an institute approved by the UGC or the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) in India, and by the respective Government Bodies for institutions outside India.
  • The applicant should possess an admission or offer letter from the institution, with a break-up of the fee structure for the entire course.
  • Preference is given to candidates who have received financial assistance, in part, from the institution offering admission or any other institution or body.

Special conditions for long-term fellowship

  • Only permanent employees of autonomous bodies under the Department of Sports, such as the Sports Authority of India (SAI), the Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE), the National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL), the National Anti Doping Agency (NADA), and the National Sports University (NSU), are considered for the long-term programme of up to 2 years on the DoP&T pattern.
  • The candidate must secure admission in a reputed institute or university in India or abroad.

Condition for a short-term fellowship

  • The applicant having a sports background, namely a National or International level athlete and a National or International level coach, may also be considered, provided they are otherwise eligible.

What you get

  • Fellowship for advanced and specialised training of short-term (up to 3 to 6 months) and long-term (up to 2 years) modules, workshops, courses, and programmes in India as well as abroad, in sports science disciplines such as Biomechanics, Sports Nutrition, Kinesiology, Anthropometry, Exercise Physiology, Sports Psychology, General Theory and Method of Training, Sports Medicine, Anti-doping, Sports Informatics, Sports Statistics and Sports Modelling, Sports Genetics, Sociology of Sports, Sports Management, and Sports Law.
  • Employees of the Central Government, State Governments, and Autonomous Bodies of the Department of Sports are assisted as per the Department of Personnel and Training (DoP&T) rates.
  • Nominations from State and Union Territory Governments may be invited for up to 40 percent of slots.
  • Up to 4 employees can be granted fellowship in a calendar year for the long-term programme of up to 2 years.
