In detail

The scheme "Tiatr Competition for Educational Institutions at Higher Secondary/College/University Level" was launched by the Tiatr Academy under the Art, Culture and Museums Department, Government of Goa. The scheme aims to encourage and develop Tiatr activities among students of educational institutions at higher secondary, college, and university levels, recognizing the enthusiasm shown by students in involving themselves in traditional Tiatr performances. The scheme provides financial support for production expenses and awards mementos and certificates to winners in various categories including best performance, individual artistes, direction, and technical aspects.

Who qualifies

  • The applicant must be an educational institution at higher secondary, college, or university level.
  • The applicant must ensure Tiatr script is either new or from any script published by reputed Tiatr writers.
  • The applicant must ensure Tiatr follows traditional format with 6 to 7 acts with at least 4 cantos.
  • The applicant must include comedy linked to the story of the play.
  • The applicant must include at least 8 kantaram including 1 duet (interactive), 1 duo (interactive), 1 trio (interactive), 1 quartet/quintet (interactive), 1 choral song, and solos.
  • The applicant must ensure not more than 2 shows of the given script have been performed prior to competition.

What you get

Financial Support: Educational institutions receive financial assistance as fixed by Tiatr Academy of Goa to meet expenses for music (live band with at least two blowing instruments), light effects, stage setting, background music, makeup, costumes, refreshments for rehearsals, and transport

Performance Platform: 15 educational institutions get opportunity to participate in production and staging of Tiatr

Awards and Recognition: Mementos and certificates (no cash prizes) awarded in multiple categories including:

  • Best Performance (1st, 2nd, 3rd prizes)
  • Individual Artistes Acting (1st and 2nd prizes for male and female)
  • Best Comedian (male and female)
  • Best Direction (1st, 2nd, 3rd prizes)
  • Technical categories: Best Setting, Light Effects, Music, Background Music, Makeup, Costumes
  • Best Singer Solo (1st and 2nd prizes for male and female)
  • Best songs categories: Duet, Duo, Trio, Quartet/Quintet, Choral Song
  • Best Lyrics (1st and 2nd prizes)
  • Best Script (1st and 2nd prizes)

Video Documentation: One copy of Digital Versatile Disc provided free of cost to participating institutions

Direct Entry Privilege: First three award winners of previous year's competition get direct entry provided their entries are received before due date

> Conditions

  • The applicant must maintain adherence to traditional Tiatr format as approved by Tiatr Academy of Goa.
  • The applicant must ensure Tiatr duration between 2 to 3 hours including interval of minimum 10 minutes and maximum 15 minutes.
  • The applicant must ensure no adverse remarks against any governments, individuals, institutions, or anything against caste, creed, and religion in scripts, lyrics, performances, or speeches.
  • The applicant must submit final typed copy of script and songs 3 days before competition commencement.
  • The applicant must limit prior performances of the script to maximum 2 shows before competition.

Who is excluded

Musicians can participate in more than one troupe, but other artistes cannot.
